Beyond The Romance Drama Podcast

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Welcome to Beyond The Romance Drama Podcast, or Beyond The Romance, for short, a bi-weekly podcast where I, your host Carolyn Hinds, and guest/s discuss our favorite Asian dramas, (both old and new). In each episode, we’ll explore both the good, the bad, and the not so pretty elements of our favorite shows. We get into the nitty-gritty, dissecting the storylines, performances, stunning wardrobe, and the at-times frustratingly overused tropes we all love to complain about but secretly wish would happen to us. I’m still waiting on my piggyback ride in the rain.

Beyond The Romance began as a blog where I shared my thoughts on the shows that touched me the most and why the stories, characters, actors, and creative teams deserve to be acknowledged, and after procrastinating for quite a while I decided to make a podcast about it since I love chatting and writing about them so much. Now, the podcast won’t only be about Korean dramas, on occasion the episodes with feature discussions about films, variety shows, and dramas from other East Asian and South-East Asian countries.

To see what shows I’m currently watching and live-tweeting, follow me @Carriecnh12 on Instagram and Twitter with #DrammasWithCarrie, and feel free to reply and join in, offer show recommendations or spill any tasty K-pop tea. Yes, I’m also very much into K-pop. 😉

About The Host

Carolyn: Anyone who follows my Twitter account, listens to my other podcast So Here’s What Happened!, or just talks to me about television shows or films, knows that the love I have for South Korean dramas (K-Dramas) is deep and profound. I love to share the emotional rollercoaster these shows send me on every time is press play. Apart from being a podcaster, I’m also a film critic, journalist, and writer. As a critic, I believe my personal experiences and outlook on life, give readers and listeners a different perspective they could appreciate and help them to see things in a new light.

After moving to Toronto from my island home of Barbados, I’m overjoyed at finally finding my nerd home. I’ve never been happier to be a part of a community of people who enjoy talking about fight choreography and cinematography as much as I do, and understand why I will forever be bitter about Glenn and Han dying. And why I’m ecstatic that Han now lives again.

I’m a member of the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA), my published work can be found here on, Atom,, and many other sites. Not only do I love speaking and writing about film, I enjoy tweeting about it as well, and every Saturday night I co-host at 10 p.m. EST. Oh, and if you were wondering, two of my favorite K-Dramas are GUARDIAN: The Lonely and Great God, and While You Were Sleeping.
